Breaking the Silence on Caste & Gender based Sexual Violence
About Us
About Us
Our journey began in 2013 by working with communities engaged in manual scavenging in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. Through this work, the team realized that other communities, particularly women and girls, were facing exploitation rooted in both caste and gender. This led to a critical question: why were generations of women being pushed into commercial sex work simply because of the caste they were born into? Seeking to address this injustice became the foundation of Udan’s work.
Registered under the Madhya Pradesh Society Registration Act, Udan is a community-based, survivor-centric organisation working to end caste-based commercial sexual exploitation and sexual violence against women and children. Over the past 12 years, we have reached more than 3,000 women, girls, and children across Mandsaur, Ratlam, and Neemuch — walking with them not as outsiders, but as partners in reclaiming dignity, safety, and opportunity
Who we are
Keeping this approach at the core of our work, we have developed strategies to address sexual violence through the PR3 (Prevention, Rehabilitation, Response and Reform in Mechanism ), which includes educational support, skill development and livelihood promotion, awareness programs, mental health services, legal assistance, and more. The organization operates in Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Bharatpur, and Chittorgarh districts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, India, and also undertakes capacity-building initiatives with the state and civil society organisations, thereby creating both a regional and national impact.
